Accelink Evaluates Photonyx Chip

OSLO -- Photonyx Ltd. has signed a cooperation agreement with Chinesecompany Accelink Technologies Co., Ltd. Photonyx is to supply a prototype optical chipfor evaluation, adaptation and inclusion in new fibre-optic products to be brought to market.

Photonyx has developed a unique optical chip set, based on polymer technology, which hassignificant potential for telecom networks and other light-based applications. The worldwide trafficgrowth in telecom networks calls for a technology shift that can handle increased demands forspeed, stability and lower component prices. Photonyx´ technology meets this need and thispotential is therefore of interest to Accelink Technologies, a major Chinese supplier of equipmentfor the global telecom market.

"This agreement takes us an important stride closer our goal of having commercially availableproducts and revenue in 2004/2005. Accelink has ordered, and will be supplied with, prototypes ofour chip for use in one particular component that is widely used in fibre-optic networks. In closecooperation, our two companies will now evaluate and adapt the chip in a process estimated to lastapproximately one year, " says Even Zimmer, Chief Operating Officer (COO) and ChiefTechnology Officer (CTO) at Photonyx Ltd.

The global annual market for this particular component type is estimated at approximately USD400 million, with projected growth up to USD 600 million in 2006. "Our initial ambition is to finalisea leading-edge product that will secure us a significant share of this market. With this agreementwe have raised our technology to a commercial level, thereby shortening the time-to-market forother potential end products that could also exploit the potential of our unique technology," saysThomas Ramm, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at WiCom ASA.
