SAN FRANCISCO -- Yipes Communications, Inc., the defining provider of scalable bandwidth on demand, today announced that Drexel University in Philadelphia, one of the nation's most technologically advanced colleges, is using its optical IP networks to deliver exceptionally high-speed Internet access to thousands of students, faculty and staff. Drexel is also partnering with Yipes to deliver advanced Internet2 access and outsourced IT services to a variety of educational institutions in the Greater Philadelphia area.Drexel began last fall with a 45 Megabits-per-second connection to the Internet through Yipes, then upgraded to 60 Mbps in March and boosted its bandwidth all the way to 100 Mbps in June to serve the rapidly growing service demands of its campus community. Yipes uses powerful and pervasive Gigabit Ethernet technology to offer the first fully scalable Internet service, over multiple Tier-1 backbones, from 1 Mbps to 1 Gbps. Drexel can raise (or lower) its bandwidth from Yipes in a matter of hours with just a phone call-unlike traditional fixed-bandwidth circuits that require months to order and install.
