Vitesse Delivers 10-Gig Chip

CAMARILLO, Calif. -- Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:VTSS) announces production availability of Meigs-ITM, an advanced 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) MAC chip allowing systems with a standard CSIX host interface access to one 10 Gigabit full duplex Ethernet port. Targeted at high-end LAN and MAN equipment manufacturers, Meigs-I provides 10GbE connectivity in a wide variety of systems. Applications for the Meigs-I include 10GbE switch-blades for enterprise based switch-routers, 10GbE switch-to-switch interconnects and uplink ports for Gigabit Ethernet switches, as well as Ethernet-based long-haul data transport and backbone connectivity systems for metropolitan optical router systems and server farms. In addition, Meigs-I can be used in infrastructure equipment for Network Attached Storage (NAS) and Storage Area Networks (SAN). "The advanced and flexible link aggregation and trunking functionality in Meigs-I, which is based on SMAC/DMAC and MPLS labels, allows the 10GbE port to behave like ten separate virtual 10/100/1000-Mb/s connections on the CSIX host interface side," said Ole C.
