DÜSSELDORF, FRANKFURT, and MÜNCHEN, Germany -- VertiLas, a Germany-based company focussing on long wavelength VCSEL, secured funding by investors High Tech Private Equity and equinet Venture Partners AG. A team around Professor Amann spun off VertiLas from renowned Walter-Schottky-Institut at Technical University of Munich at the end of last year. The company is developing, producing and selling long wavelength vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL). VCSEL may be produced much more cost-effective than standard diode lasers. Now the company secured a first round of funding by investors High Tech Private Equity and equinet Venture Partners AG. The non-disclosed sum will flow into the commercialisation of VertiLas products. “With our breakthrough technology we are targeting attractive markets like telecommunications and sensing technology”, says CTO Dr. Ortsiefer.VertiLas’ VCSEL showed superior performance and achieved higher output power while granting lower voltage and superior temperature behaviour. Industry experts believe VertiLas’ technology to be most promising for an industrial scale production of 1.55µm VCSEL. The company expects to be the first to make these type of components commercially available in the course of 2003.VertiLas GmbH
