EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Velocium, TRW's telecommunication products company, opened a new headquarters building and product design laboratory today. The futuristic 50,000-square-foot facility, located in El Segundo, is only minutes away from TRW's recently completed production line for fabricating high-performance indium phosphide (InP) chips for telecommunications applications. InP is a semiconductor material capable of operating at the high speeds needed to integrate optical and electronic functions. Velocium, formed in May, makes TRW's high-speed semiconductor technologies available to the fiber optic-based and broadband wireless telecommunications industries. "The new headquarters demonstrates the growing emergence of Velocium as a TRW brand," said Dwight Streit, Velocium president. "We're bringing TRW's advanced technology to market just when the telecommunications industry is seeking the high-speed optoelectronic solutions possible with indium phosphide." Velocium
