LAS VEGAS -- Velio Communications, Inc., a leading developer of high-speed communications semiconductors, today announced its Data EOS serializer/deserializer (SerDes) IC, the VC1003, is included in the world's largest 10 Gigabit Ethernet XAUI (eXtended Attachment Unit Interface) multi-vendor interoperability demonstration at Networld + Interop 2002 in Las Vegas. Conducted by the 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance (10GEA) in booth #6225, the demonstration features devices from four vendors exchanging test-pattern data through eight layers of connections, 20 inches of FR-4 trace and 10 kilometers of optical fiber. The Velio VC1003 transceiver using the 10 Gigabit XAUI exchanged the IEEE 802.ae-approved Continuous Random Pattern (CRPAT) over an entire 10-Gigabit Ethernet network pathway. The pathway consisted of the VC1003 SerDes connected through XAUI over FR-4 to a JDS Uniphase 10GE-LR XENPAK transceiver, which is then routed over 10 kilometers of optical fiber to a Optillion TOP 3010 long reach (LR) XENPAK optical transceiver, and then back through FR-4 over XAUI to the Mindspeed M27205 SerDes device. "Velio is leading the way in SerDes solutions for challenging backplane applications with demanding signal integrity requirements," said Anna Chiang, director of product marketing for Velio. "This demonstration of interoperability is a strong indicator that 10 Gigabit Ethernet solutions are ready for the next phase -- deployment of products in multi-vendor networks worldwide."
