UTStarcom Deploys in India

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- UTStarcom, Inc. (Nasdaq: UTSI), a global leader in IP-based, end-to-end networking solutions and services, today announced a contract with United Telecom Limited to deploy its Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network(GEPON) fiber access solution to serve as the foundation for the new Statewide Area Network (SWAN) in the state of Goa in India. A pioneer in the development and management of eGovernance and next-generation network infrastructure solutions, United Telecoms Ltd is the first company to deploy GEPON technology to deliver e-Governance and triple play services to the citizens of Goa.

UTStarcom's FTTx solution will be used to provide high-speed fiber connectivity across all state government offices in Goa for running e-Governance applications. The network will be capable of delivering up to one gigabit-per-second bandwidth to each office and is expected to be extended in the near future to cover the sub-districts and villages to enable the Goa state government to provide better services to its citizens.
