UTStarcom Executive Farshid Mohammadi joins advisory board for VoX Communications, a packet communications services provider

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- eLEC Communications Corp. (OTCBB:ELEC), a CLEC and integrated packet communications service provider, today announced that UTStarcom executive Farshid Mohammadi has joined its advisory board to support eLEC's wholly owned subsidiary VoX Communications. Based in Celebration, Fla., VoX is a premier packet communications services provider deploying wholesale, residential and business Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) services nationwide.

Farshid Mohammadi is general manager for the North America and international switching business unit at UTStarcom where he is responsible for the business operation, product direction and strategy, and product development of next generation IP-based switching product lines including, media gateways, softswitches, application servers, as well as unified communications. Prior to his position at UTStarcom, Mohammadi was the director of product management for wireline product lines at CommWorks, a division of 3Com. He was also one of the initial executive members of Westwave Communications where he was responsible for product definition, development and direction. His career began at Bell Communications Research where his responsibilities included the definition and rollout of SS7 and AIN at the RBOCs. His last position at Bellcore was the director of ITESF where he was responsible for technology and product definition of Internet offload and next generation switching. In that capacity he worked with a number of tier 1 and startup companies to help define their product lines and go-to-market strategies. He graduated from Cornell University with a master's degree in telecommunications and electrical engineering, and completed his undergraduate studies in electrical engineering at Syracuse University.

Mohammadi currently serves as chair of marketing and co-chair of the wireline & wireless convergence working group for the International Packet Communications Consortium (IPCC), a technology forum working to advance VoIP over broadband cable, wireless and wireline.
