Thailand AIS Works With Huawei to Build a Leading 5G SA Monetization Platform, Enabling 5G Service Development

At the TM Forum's Digital Transformation World Series 2021 on September 28, Mr. Chaiwat Suttenon, Head of IT & Services Platform Management Department of Thailand Advanced Info Service (AIS), delivered a keynote speech titled "How 5G SA Charging System Enabling 5G Development Successfully". Throughout the speech, he shared the key factors for Huawei's new generation 5G charging system to quickly support AIS 5G SA network monetization and 5G service development.

Figure 1:

As a leading carrier in Thailand, AIS released 5G SA and NSA services in August 2020, the first among its peers worldwide. So far, AIS charging platform has supported more than 40 million prepaid subscribers and 10 million postpaid subscribers. At the TM Forum's Digital Transformation World Series 2021, Mr. Chaiwat Suttenon gave a detailed introduction to AIS's 5G service development strategies and experience in innovating its charging system. The new charging system has greatly improved our experience, as evidenced in the following three aspects. First, high availability. The availability of the charging system reached 100% in 2020, and no service interruption occurred in the whole year. Second, faster time to market (TTM). Flexible configuration, DIY, and abundant templates enable marketing personnel to develop services independently without software changes. Third, end-to-end services provided by Huawei. Huawei provides seamless integration of services covering the wireless network, core network, charging system, and BSS, which is especially important for AIS. AIS would use the latest cloud native and continuous delivery capabilities of the Convergent Billing System (CBS) in the future to further reduce costs, improve efficiency, and accelerate TTM, thereby boosting 5G service growth.

As a new infrastructure and momentum for global economic development, 5G not only means faster network speeds and technology, but also new market opportunities. Can carriers be a dominant power in the development of the new 5G economy? As Mr. Chaiwat Suttenon believes, "The key to successfully developing 5G services is selecting the right solution and the right partner. It is crucial that we build a reliable, agile, and cost-effective charging platform to better support 5G monetization."

Huawei's CBS serves 2.3 billion users and more than 200 carriers worldwide. In 2020, Huawei unveiled the world's first 5G SA charging release R20 in London. In 2021, Huawei released the new generation CBS R21, with "Five Star Best Billing Benchmark" model published at TM Forum's Digital Transformation World Series 2021, raising five core capabilities to help carriers monetize the new 5G SA productivity beyond connectivity in the 5G era: cloud native, convergence, agility, openness, and intelligence.
