Super Janet Goes to Scotland

GLASGOW -- Thus plc, one of the UK's leading providers of voice, data, Internet and contact centre services, has won a contract with UKERNA to provide high speed links to the Scottish extension of Super Janet 4, a network connecting university's throughout the UK. This contract will now enable all five MANs (Metropolitan Area Network) to access the high speeds provided by the SuperJANET4 project. The links, once installed, will provide major upgrades to the connections of ABMAN (Aberdeen), FATMAN (Fife & Tayside) and UHI (University of the Highlands and Islands) and enable them to access Thus' state-of-the-art DWDM fibre optic network, the most advanced in Scotland. These MANs will then be able to enjoy access to SuperJANET, equivalent to that already provided to EaStMAN (Edinburgh & Sterling) and ClydeNET (Glasgow). The high speed links will connect UHI to the SuperJANET connection point in Glasgow at 155mb, connect ABMAN to the SuperJANET connection point in Edinburgh at 622mb and link FATMAN to the SuperJANET point in Glasgow at 622mb delivering high capacity bandwidth into the education sector, in line with current government directives.
