Startup Heads for Sewer

SILVER SPRING, Md. -– CityNet Telecommunications, Inc., today unveiled a revolutionary solution for bringing high-speed broadband access directly into buildings, using robots to install fiber optic networks through a city’s existing sewer system.CityNet’s unique in-sewer network deployment makes it possible to bypass slower copper lines to deliver all-optical networks directly into buildings. Until now, almost all fiber optic networks have run between continents and countries, between cities, and as large beltway rings encircling cities. The missing piece to an end-to-end, all-optical network path has been the gap between the large metro beltway rings and buildings themselves, a gap referred to as the “last-mile”.

“Carriers and network service providers are using old copper lines never meant to carry vast quantities of data, voice, and video,” said Robert G.
