Star Spangled Burrito

10:00 AM -- Y'all may have heard by now that there's a new Spanish pop version of "The Star Spangled Banner," our notoriously thunderous, but unsingable, National Anthem. The New York Times reports that the President has weighed in on the burgeoning quasi-controversy:

"And I think people who want to be a citizen of this country ought to learn English," Mr. Bush said. "And they ought to learn to sing the national anthem in English."
You can almost hear the "Got-Demmit!" can't you?

Meanwhile, watch for a Congressional subcommittee to be empaneled:

"He recognized that Texas was rapidly becoming a state that would have more Hispanics and more African-Americans than it would Anglos," said Senator Lamar Alexander, Republican of Tennessee, who plans to introduce a resolution on Monday "to remind the country" why the national anthem should be always sung in English...

The Spanish wire service Agencia EFE once said
[Bush] spoke the language poorly, "but with great confidence."
(They're referring to his Spanish.)

The Times story includes a link to "Nuestro Himno." Funny, but they make it sound an awful lot like "We Are the World."

Sigh. Wake me when it's over...

Shirley you could do better than this?

If you are going to continue to carry the progresive torch you must remember that Bush is a "good" Christian, and good Christians from Texas say "Dag-Nabbit", not "Got-Demmit".

I find it hard to believe that a primate with your soap box would not have jumped on the Prez at the Washington Press Corp Dinner. Something more entertaining.

On this one I have to agree with my loquacious leader. 12 million illegal immigrants, prove you want to be here! Learn the freakin language, then you can sing the real national anthem the right way. You may actually understand the words and history/meaning behind them. What a concept...

Cheers

No (you can't deport citizens), but you can get on a NSA wiretap list for asking such a question!

Can you hear the clicking sound on your phone yet?

Clicking noises and NSA...

Far better than APCs, Blackhawks, federal troops and burning innocent people alive to serve an arrest warrant.

If you forget what empowered the Neo-nuts, you continue to empower them.

Having said that, if it was Liberals filtering every email and phone call in the world for keywords, that would be just as alarming to Neos.

It's not the filtering, it's the keyword list; and what, where, when you do it to whom.

Let me axe you a question. Is mispronunciation a crime or just an embarrassment?

Now that the Senate has solved all our nation's other pressing problems, Lamar Alexander today introduced "a resolution that affirms that statements of national unity, especially the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem, ought to be recited or sung in English."

Doesn't LR count as a non-Hispanic enterprise?

Aren't we supposed to be boycotting all things "Gringo" today to show our support for undocumented workers?

Maybe I shouldn't be posting here today?

Nada Starbucks e nada Dunkin Donuts? Imposible!

I'm guessing Larry qualifies as a Monkey Gringo.
