Spirent Takes Test Services Global

Spirent launches global services initiative and provides IPv6 testing for Multiservice Switching Forum's GMI 2004 demo

BOSTON -- Spirent Communications(tm) (NYSE: SPM; LSE: SPT), today announced it is taking its testing services global with Spirent Global Services(tm) , a strategic initiative designed to accelerate the testing process and ensure the quality of results. Spirent Global Services combines the company's award-winning test products with customized test methodologies, test automation, outsourced testing, local technical support, and training to offer a test solution for today's converging voice and data networks.

"By combining our award-winning hardware and software with our vast experience in test methodologies and technology transfer, Spirent Global Services allows us to extend our capabilities worldwide to capture, transfer, and deliver expertise in a timely manner to a growing global customer base."

Spirent announced its Services organization in North America in May of this year. Now, its Global Services will be staffed by Spirent's network of employees, its distributors, partners, and subsidiary organizations around the world to provide testing services offers and local support in local languages. The company already has an office staffed and operating in Paris, France to serve the Europe, Middle Eastern, and African (EMEA) markets and plans to open a local support center in Bangalore, India and Beijing, China early in 2005. Spirent has long-standing relationships with distributors in Canada, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan and has teamed with universities and independent companies in EMEA and Asia to deliver training services.

BOSTON -- Spirent Communications (NYSE: SPM; LSE: SPT), is the only vendor to have provided test equipment and engineering support at all five Global MSF Interoperability (GMI) test sites. Spirent's involvement at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) site, was key to testing Scenario 6, which involved voice and video testing over IPv6 between UNH-IOL and NTT in Japan. Spirent has been a key participant at GMI events since their inception in 2002, where again, Spirent participated at all host sites.

"It is Spirent's aim to provide targeted support for key organizations conducting the industry's most advanced test and measurement activities, such as the GMI," said Neil Anderson, senior director of Global Services, Spirent Communications and marketing chairman for the MSF. "Spirent is the only communications test company with a worldwide initiative that coordinates critical testing and research support across all divisions of the corporation."

In GMI 2004, Spirent's award-winning Abacus 5000 performed distributed voice testing between sites across the globe to facilitate the validation of the MSF Release 2 Architecture and associated test scenarios. Spirent's Abacus 5000 also measured voice quality and other essential criteria that are important to successful VoIP calls. Spirent released IPv6 capabilities on the Abacus in time to the meet test requirements for dual stack protocol analysis. With engineers and equipment at all GMI host sites, BT, Qwest, NTT and KT in addition to UNH-IOL, Spirent contributed hundreds of man hours to the successful of completion of GMI 2004.

"The GMI/UNH-IOL tie-in was key to demonstrating the degree of readiness of voice over IPv6, including the SIP protocol, in today's complex carrier networks," said Ben Schultz, UNH-IOL IPv6 Consortium Managing Engineer. "Spirent took a strong leadership role in this initiative."
