Moto Needs the RAZR to Burn

6:05 PM -- There's a lot riding on the new RAZR from Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT). (See Photos: Moto Gets Skinny With 4G RAZR.)

First off, it's the first Long Term Evolution (LTE) phone that looks primed to take on the iPhone 4S since the Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) phone was launched a couple of weeks ago.

My take is that if you're a, er, speed freak you're going to want the RAZR. Particularly since the Verizon Wireless LTE network is currently less crowded than the 3G networks the iPhone runs on.

If you want slick software, then the Apple is still probably your phone. Although Android phones can often be updated more often than iOS.

Talking of Google (Nasdaq: GOOG), the high-end RAZR might be one of the first indications of how Motorola Mobility will develop as Google takes control. Certainly, Motorola could help Google provide some flagship devices for the Android OS in the coming years.

What's your take on the re-emergence of the RAZR?
