OTTAWA -- SiberCore Technologies today unveiled the SiberCAM Ultra-18M, the lowest power 18 megabit (Mbit) packet forwarding and classification co-processor on the market. With advanced power management, variable entry width and an independent table management port, the SiberCAM Ultra-18M is the industry's only 18Mbit ternary content addressable memory (TCAM) to address all of today's OEM requirements for wire-speed transmission in OC-192 (10 Gb/s) and OC-48 (2.5 Gb/s) switches and routers. "The networking co-processor market has undergone a transition," said Peter Becke, president and CEO, SiberCore Technologies. "Eighteen months ago, the focus was primarily on performance and speed. Today, the delays in deploying higher bandwidth equipment have driven many OEMs to place a higher emphasis on density, power consumption and value for money. SiberCore's new Ultra-18M complements our existing product line by offering a part that is consistent with these evolving customers requirements." Based on an efficient core cell architecture, the SiberCAM Ultra-18M consumes the lowest power per Mbit when compared to any other solution on the market. It is also equipped with SiberCore's patent-pending block select technique that allows users to focus searches on sections of the CAM. When power management features are fully utilized, a system can be designed to search one million 72-bit entries at 66 Msps while consuming less than 6 watts - a reduction of over an order of magnitude compared to alternative solutions.
