MORRISVILLE, N.C. -- Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), a leading developer of telecommunications products for next-generation fixed, mobile and packet networks, today announced TexLink Communications has selected the Tekelec 9000 Distributed Switching Solution (DSS) to provide next-generation voice and data services.

Tekelec 9000 DSS enables the Texas-based competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) to provide customized voice and data services to small- and medium-sized businesses in Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. The platform also allows TexLink to provide next-generation switching features and functionality at reduced operational and capital costs to larger unbundled network element-platform (UNE-P) operators in the state.

"We chose Tekelec based on its successes and expertise providing switching solutions to other large Texas-based CLECs," said Mark Griffin, president, TexLink. "VoIP is important to our evolution, and the VoIP capabilities of the T9000 allow us to grow our IP services with better features and higher reliability--at a reduced cost.

"We have built a reputation for outstanding customer service among our business and operator customers," added Griffin. "Tekelec's platform provides the flexibility to support services for both types of customers and helps us to continue our growth in the 'Big 4' Texas markets while ensuring the highest quality of service."
