RESTON, Va. -- XO Communications, a leading provider of 21st century communications services for businesses and communications services providers, today announced that it has signed a multi-year, multi-million dollar agreement to provide local access network services to SAVVIS, Inc., a global leader in IT infrastructure services for business and government applications, in support of SAVVIS’ data center expansion plans and growing demand for its industry-leading IT infrastructure services.

Under the terms of the agreement, SAVVIS has the option to purchase a broad range of high-capacity local access network services including XO Metro and Inter-City Ethernet Services and XO Wavelength services at 2.5 and 10 Gbps speeds. SAVVIS will use the XO network services to provide local access to its data centers as it continues to build out its high capacity Next Generation Network to meet increased demand for its scalable IT infrastructure services. SAVVIS currently has 23 data centers encompassing 1.3 million square feet and has announced plans to develop four new data centers in the areas around Atlanta, New York City, Washington, DC and Santa Clara, Calif.

“SAVVIS selected XO based on its first-class local access products and commitment to service,” said Jim Poole, Vice President of Network Services for SAVVIS. “As we continue to integrate our network and hosting infrastructures, XO will play an important role as we enhance and expand services such as Metro Ethernet as part of SAVVIS’ hosted financial exchange services.”
