NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Strong demand for Internet and other communications services continues to spur the expansion of Mexico's telecom networks. Internet penetration has grown eightfold since 2000, and now more than 22 million people have Internet access in Mexico. A leading wholesale services provider, MetroNet, is deploying Tellabs technology to simplify its network architecture, keep up with user demand, and deliver advanced services in Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico City.

More Users, More Services

MetroNet has deployed the Tellabs(R) 8830 Multiservice Router (MSR), part of the Tellabs(R) MultiservicePLuS(SM) solution, to provide advanced Internet and voice services to more users in the most densely populated cities in Mexico. With the Tellabs 8830 MSR, MetroNet can offer various services, including Ethernet, with 99.999% availability -- or less than five minutes of downtime per year.

"The Tellabs 8830 MSR is the glue we needed to converge our networks and better serve our customers," said Miguel Angel Fernandez, operations and engineering director of MetroNet. "The Tellabs(R) 8800 MSR series does much more than typical routing; it enables different networks to talk to each other."
