SAN FRANCISCO - CiscoLive -- Cisco is beefing up its security portfolio. It plans to acquire ThreatGrid, which provides dynamic malware analysis and threat intelligence technology.
Hilton Romanski, Cisco business development head, wrote in a company blog post this morning:
Today, I am pleased to announce Cisco's intent to acquire ThreatGRID, headquartered in New York, NY. ThreatGRID offers dynamic malware analysis and threat intelligence technology, both on-premise and in thecloud. This helps organizations and security teams defend proactively against and quickly respond to advanced cyber attacks and malware outbreaks.
ThreadGrid technology would enhance Cisco's Advanced Malware Protection (AMP), originally developed by Sourcefire, which the company acquired last year. Romanski wrote that ThreatGrid's on-premises product will help Cisco customers with in-house data retention requirements. (See Cisco Banks on Sourcefire & Snort for Security.)
AMP provides malware detection and blocking, as well as "continuous analysis and retrospective remdiation of advanced threats," he wrote.
Cisco expects to close the acquisition in the fourth quarter. Financial terms were not disclosed.
