Singapore Power subsidiary uses Redback's SMS platform to provide broadband service over power lines

SINGAPORE -- Redback Networks Inc. (Nasdaq:RBAK - news), a leading provider of solutions for next-generation metro broadband and optical networking equipment, today announced that SP Telecommunications Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of Singapore Power, has selected the Redback® SMS(TM) platform of subscriber management systems to provide broadband services using its PowerLine Communications (PLC) technology. ThePLC technology enables broadband telecommunications signals to be sent over underground low voltage cables, leveraging existing infrastructure to deliver broadband service to every location on the island.SP Telecom has deployed the SMS platform for the PLC system with a three tosix -month trial that started in April. The SMS platform, a powerfulnetworking device, will aggregate signals from the trial broadband users,apply user configuration management to the data stream, and deliver thegroomed traffic to SP Telecommunications' back-end routers."SP Telecom has been successful in building an extensive optical cable ductinfrastructure, and we see the PLC technology as an innovative means offurther leveraging our infrastructure," said Tan Hwee Tang, Deputy GeneralManager at SP Telecom.
