Orbitel Buys Into Arcos Network

MIAMI -- New World Network, Ltd., the principal owner of the Americas Region Caribbean Optical-ring System (ARCOS), today announced that the company has signed a contract with Orbitel, the leading telecommunications company headquartered in Colombia. The agreement expands Orbitel's international communications network and will allow customers access to leading edge, high-speed bandwidth capacity to support the growing demand for data, Internet and convergence communications. Through the ARCOS cable network, the only fully redundant ring in the region, customers in Colombia can connect to the U.S., Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean and access other international routes. Under the terms of the agreement, Orbitel has agreed to purchase capacity on New World Network's ARCOS fiber-optic cable network that will provide high-speed point-to-point connectivity between New World Network's cable landing station in North Miami Beach, Florida and Cartegena, Colombia. Capacity from ARCOS will be transported to inland telecommunications systems in Colombia and provide Orbitel customers with broad international coverage.
