HORSHAM, Pa. -- Optium Corporation (Nasdaq:OPTM), a leading supplier of high-performance optical subsystems, will highlight its proprietary, LCoS based WSS ROADM with integrated channel monitor, at the Optical Fiber Communications Conference/National Fiber Optics Engineers Conference (OFC/NFOEC) in San Diego, California from February 26-28, 2008.

Optium's WSS ROADM with integrated optical channel monitor (WSS OCM) responds to the increasing demand for optical networking solutions and is designed to accurately measure channel power for optical signals up to 40Gb/s over a variety of modulation formats, including DPSK. Optium will be sampling its WSS OCM with multiple customers over the next several months.

As optical networks continue to evolve to address the increasing demand for bandwidth from triple play and video applications, consistency in performance at 40Gb/s transmission speeds is essential. Many optical channel monitoring technologies in the market today provide limited accuracy at 40GB/s, especially when required to measure a wider variety of data rates and signal modulation types over a larger dynamic range. Optium's WSS OCM is designed to meet these system demands by providing telecom and cable TV operators with enhanced capabilities for optimizing network performance.

"The WSS OCM is an important step in Optium's goal to provide our customers with next generation switching solutions for systems operating at 10Gb/s and above," commented Steve Frisken, Vice President of Wavelength Products for Optium Corporation. "In addition, Optium's WSS OCM will be the foundation for an advanced optical channel monitoring platform (OCM Platform) we intend to introduce within the next twelve months. This groundbreaking monitoring technology will be designed to deliver rapid and accurate in-band optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) measurements up to 40GB/s over a variety of modulation formats."
