STOCKHOLM -- PFALZKOM | MANET, a regional carrier in Ludwigshafen, Germany, has chosen a combination of CWDM and DWDM technology from Transmode to upgrade its network. The systems from Transmode are being used for both inter-connection as well as in the wider development of the PFALZKOM | MANET network.

In order to increase network capacity and to extend the geographic coverage of its existing network, PFALZKOM | MANET has linked more than 40 of Deutsche Telekom's main distribution nodes to PFALZKOM | MANET's own core optical network using CWDM technology. PFALZKOM | MANET can now offer additional services to its business customers and act as a Local Loop operator for alternative carriers.

To connect the main distribution nodes PFALZKOM | MANET is using Transmode's TS-Series, which is a multi-service optical networking platform that supports both CWDM and DWDM. In addition PFALZKOM | MANET is using Transmode's TM-Series for DWDM to interconnect its datacenters in Ludwigshafen and Mannheim over a redundant ring to the central exchange in Frankfurt - based on DWDM and at higher data rates. The transparent 9x Gigabit Ethernet muxponder cards, with their 10Gbit/s interfaces, act as an efficient manager of the respective wavelengths required.

"We are delighted with the Transmode TS-Series because of its robustness and ease of use," said Jürgen Beyer, CEO, PFALZKOM | MANET. "The solution has no unnecessary complexity and is truly scalable over a large area and it offers a simple web-based management system. Above all, the installed iWDM-Technology has far lower operating costs than any of the other similar solutions, which, in our expanding network, is a great advantage."
