GigOptix, formerly known as iTerra Communications, announces new executive team, receives fresh funding

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- GigOptix, the leader in integrated circuits for high speed optically connected communication systems announced today that they have assembled the new world-class executive team, comprising six new heavy hitters, and received significant funding to capture the majority of the market for semiconductors in 10G and future 40G long haul and metro transponder and transceiver applications. GigOptix, formerly known as iTerra Communications, designs and develops optical modulator drivers and receivers used to connect the electronics to the fiber optics in high performance telecom and datacom systems. The company plans to capture the market through meeting optical communication system manufacturer’s needs by developing the most cost-effective, low power and high performance solutions available.

GigOpitx is headed up by Dr. Avi Katz, a 3-time silicon valley CEO known for generating very high profits in fiercely competitive situations. He founded new companies, managed global mergers and acquisitions, formed joint ventures and strategic alliances and lead corporate divestitures. A completely new executive team comprising industry leading executives has also been assembled. Mike Forman has joined as Chief Financial Officer and VP of Finance. Mike has more than 25 years experience in finance and administration. Prior to joining GigOptix, he was Chief Financial Officer and VP of Finance and Administration for Tessera Technologies, where he played a significant role in taking the company public. Vivek Rajgarhia joins as Vice President of Global Sales. Vivek was most recently Vice President of Sales and Marketing for DuPont Photonics, where he exceeded financial plans by 32% through new design wins and aligning core competencies with customer needs. Julie Tipton, is the new VP of Marketing. Julie was formerly VP and General Manager of several business divisions for NXP where she launched the first miniaturized WLAN SiP for mobile phones, and won the business of two top cellular OEMs. Marc Correa, the new Head of Operations was formerly with Mistletoe Technologies and Airgo Networks where he specialized in rapidly transitioning from low-volume to high-volume production; Carey Mitchell, is the new Director of Corporate Communications. Carey has successfully launched over 40 start-ups through her consultancy, Virtual PR. Andrea Betti-Berutto is GigOptix’s first Chief Technology Officer. Previously Andrea was a Co-Founder of iTerra Communications.
