WOBURN, Mass. -- Aegis Semiconductor, the leader in low-cost DWDM channel monitoring solutions for ROADMs and other applications, announced today that it has changed its name to Aegis Lightwave. The new name better describes the full breadth of products and markets that Aegis serves and its growing presence throughout the optical telecommunications industry.

The choice of ‘semiconductor’ in its original name goes back to the company inception in the year 2000. At that time, Aegis was providing wafer or die level products. Aegis continues to utilize the fundamental advantages of its semiconductor processes in all of its products. However, since that time, Aegis has grown to become a well-known provider of the most cost-effective optical channel monitor components, modules and sub-systems to the fiber-optic communications industry.

“With over 10,000 optical channel monitor ports shipped to date and a broad adoption of our technology, Aegis continues to grow rapidly,” said Jeffrey Farmer, President and CEO, Aegis Lightwave. “The name change re-affirms our focus on fiber-optic communications and our commitment to continue exceeding our customers’ expectations for product performance, quality and innovation.”
