CYPRESS, Calif. -- National LambdaRail (NLR), a consortium of leading U.S. research universities and private sector technology companies, announced today that it is seeking a qualified candidate to fill its position of Chief Executive Officer. The current CEO, Tom West, has served as the founder and leader of this highly successful organization for the past five years. He has announced his plan to step down, but will stay on to support the transition to a new CEO.

National LambdaRail is a not-for-profit organization focused on advancing the research, clinical, and educational goals of members and other institutions by establishing and maintaining a unique nationwide network infrastructure that is owned and controlled by the U.S. research community. Ownership of the underlying optical infrastructure ensures the research community unprecedented control and flexibility in meeting the requirements of the most advanced network applications and providing the resources demanded by cutting-edge network research.

As the networking and distributed systems research community takes on the challenge of reinventing the Internet, NLR is well positioned to be an experimental infrastructure of choice, while also supporting research networking needs across a broad spectrum of disciplines. The new CEO of NLR will have the opportunity to further enable evolving technologies, such as cloud computing, and to create key partnerships with academia, government agencies, and companies to help build a prototype experimental future Internet on its facilities and thus shape the global communication infrastructure of the 21st century.

During its first five years, NLR established a highly robust network for supporting the high-speed network connectivity needs of researchers. Board Chair Erv Blythe stated “We see our new CEO driving NLR from its strong base to the next level of global research support. We are looking for an individual who is up to the challenge.”
