PARIS -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced a new enhancement to its multi-service WAN portfolio addressing the tier one mobile operator requirements for more efficient aggregation of the ever-increasing flow of 3G voice, data and multimedia traffic.
The Alcatel-Lucent 7670 Routing Switch Platform (RSP) now features an Edge Services Card (ESC) that immediately provides more capacity in a single shelf. This is critical as operators face a dual challenge to their 3G Radio Access Network (RAN): an increase in base stations (known as Node Bs) and radio network controllers (RNCs) to satisfy the growing number of mobile subscribers, and ever-higher data rates to support new IP-based applications.
“Mobile operators around the world are transforming their transport networks in order to control OPEX while supporting higher-bandwidth services,” said Basil Alwan, head of Alcatel-Lucent’s IP activities. “We continue to invest in our MSWAN portfolio with the addition of the ESC plus the availability of non-stop IPv6 routing added earlier this year. Mobile transformation is a strategic and dynamic growth area, and we are committed to the enhancement of our portfolio in order to help our customers profit from this opportunity.”
