Occam Names BLC 6000 Customer

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Occam Networks Inc. (OTCBB: OCCM), a supplier of innovative Ethernet- and IP-based loop carrier equipment to telecommunications companies worldwide, today announced that Bloomingdale Telephone Company will use the Occam BLC 6000 System as a key element in its telecommunications network as it transitions from TDM equipment to IP- and Gigabit Ethernet-based products. The upgraded network enables the independent operating company (IOC) in Southwest Michigan to deliver POTS and high-speed data over DSL immediately and sets the stage for the IOC to deliver voice over IP (VoIP) and IP video next year.

Bloomingdale, which is over 100 years old, began their network transition with the construction of new outside plant facilities. Today, the IOC has a Tekelec softswitch and the BLC 6000 Central Office Terminal (COT) with three shelves installed in its central office (CO). The BLC 6000 is installed in nine remote terminals running on two Gigabit Ethernet fiber rings. The company expects to begin turning up service in the 2nd quarter of 2005.

"We knew we wanted to use IP and Gigabit Ethernet to connect our remote terminals, and we also needed to add copper lines," said Dan Key, facilities manager for Bloomingdale. "The BLC 6000 offered us the flexibility to support our extensive fiber network and our new and existing copper infrastructure using Gigabit Ethernet for transport. We really like the versatility of the Occam BLC."
