HONG KONG -- BT today announced the appointment of Allen Ma as the new president for the company’s Asia Pacific operations, effective immediately. Graham Moore, who has rebuilt the company’s presence as president since April 2002, will stay on with BT in the region as a consultant on a short-term basis from February 2005 until his retirement later in the year.

Allen Ma has over 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, with much of it based in the region. In his most recent role, he worked for Motorola Global Telecom Solution Sector as vice president and general manager of Asia where he coached a team to win many customer contracts worth hundreds of million dollars, riding on the growth in demand for cellular services in emerging south and southeast Asia markets. Through a “Choose to be Chosen” strategy, an improved understanding of customer needs and an uncompromised dedication to customer satisfaction, his team trebled the amount of sales revenue in just 12 months and achieved leading market share in many countries.

Prior to that, Allen worked for C&W Hongkong Telecom in a number of senior executive positions. These include: executive director responsible for the multi-media arm rolling out city-wide broadband internet services and e-commerce applications; managing director for CSL mobile services, achieving market leadership in Hong Kong through strong service differentiations and innovative branding; and marketing director for fixed network services, successfully defending Hongkong Telecom’s market share during the first phase deregulation of the fixed line market. Graham Moore will retire after 41 years with the company where he rose from telegram boy to a variety of senior management positions including director of Scotland and Northern Ireland and, most recently, leadership of Asia Pacific.

François Barrault, president, BT International, said: “In a long and very successful career with BT, Graham has made an outstanding contribution to the rebuilding of the company’s presence in the Asia Pacific region. During his time as regional president, he has been instrumental in refreshing the regional team, creating five Asia Pacific sub-regions, re-establishing BT locally as a global brand with a great reputation as demonstrated most recently in several Gartner and other industry analyst reports, and expanding both our network reach and customer base. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his support to me personally and his contribution to driving success in our Asia Pacific region. It is a testament to his leadership skills that the business is now in great shape for the challenges it faces.

“I also welcome Allen in his new role, and have every confidence that he will continue to take full advantage of the opportunities that are making our Asia Pacific operations such an important part of the international network.”
