Luminous Names Engineering VP

CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Luminous Networks(TM) today announced the promotion of Dr. Donna Nielsen to vice president, System Engineering and Test. In her new role, she will have responsibility for ensuring that the company's PacketWave(TM) metro optical access platform meets the stringent requirements of telecom carriers, and that products are fully tested, stable and robust prior to shipment. Dr. Nielsen's promotion comes as Luminous ships its carrier-class optical Ethernet platform to telecommunications carriers building out metropolitan area networks. Luminous' products, based on the emerging Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) standard, have been shipping for revenue since December 2000 to major telecommunications service providers. Dr. Nielsen, who joined Luminous in January 2001 as Director of System Engineering and Test, was formerly Vice President, System Development and Test for Globalstar. At Globalstar, where she worked for over six years, Dr. Nielsen developed the system control center for the company's satellite control systems for wireless global communications. In that role, she was responsible for Globalstar's communications gateways around the world, including system integration, test, and deployment.
