NEW YORK -- Salaries in the global telecom industry are inching upward, employer loyalty is high, and layoffs look to be tapering off, according to the results of the 2010/2011 Salary Survey, published by UBM TechWeb's Light Reading (www.lightreading.com), the largest research-led media company serving the global communications marketplace.

Light Reading's 2010/2011 Salary Survey is available free to registered users at: www.lightreading.com/salarysurvey

As part of its annual salary survey, Light Reading polled 1,685 telecom professionals, including nearly 500 service providers. “This survey provides career trends based on feedback from service providers around the world," says Phil Harvey, Editor-in-Chief of Light Reading. "This data helps us get a sense of what's really happening out there – what jobs are in high demand, what positions are getting pay increases, and where telecom firms are placing their bets."

Of those surveyed in Light Reading's global audience, it's clear that most folks aren't expecting significant pay raises this year or next:

  • 26 percent expected a 1 percent to 5 percent pay increase this year over 2009

  • Nearly one third thought they'd make the same amount this year as they did in 2009

  • 29 percent say they expect their compensation to stay flat into 2011

  • More than one third say they expect a 1 percent to 5 percent pay bump in 2011
