The need for observability has never been greater than for a cloudified network with always-on applications that demand low latency, high throughput and/or ultra-reliability. But the move to the cloudified 5G Standalone network presents unprecedented observability challenges with disaggregated network functions on distributed compute resources along with encrypted interfaces. Network Operations and Engineering need telemetry to continuously measure latency, throughput, and reliability and to ensure Service Level Agreement Enforcement and reporting.

Moderator:
Jim Hodges
Research Director, Heavy Reading
Jim leads research on the security impact of the virtualized cloud, in the fixed and mobile core and at the enterprise edge. Jim focuses on the impacts of cloud-based technologies such as 5G from a cyberthreat detection perspective, as well as the business opportunities associated with delivering security capabilities via a managed services model.

Jim previously worked at Nortel Networks, where he tracked the VoIP and application server market landscape and was a key contributor to the development of Wireless Intelligent Network standards.

He gained additional technical experience at Bell Canada, where he performed IN and SS7 network planning, numbering administration, technical model forecast creation, and definition of regulatory-based interconnection models. Jim is based in Ottawa, Canada.

Speaker:
John English
Director of Service Provider Marketing and Business Development

As director of service provider marketing John’s mission is to share, with prospects, customers, and industry analysts, how NETSCOUT solutions help communications service providers (CSPs) successfully implement new technologies such as 5G and DAA/vCMTS/FTTX by continually assuring the delivery of high-quality services and gaining business insights to monetize the network. Likewise, John works with cloud service providers to foster partnerships that provide these value-added solutions for joint enterprise customers.

John uses the knowledge he has gained from his extensive background in telecom having worked for a major communications service provider and multiple original equipment manufacturers providing multiple generations of technology solutions for CSPs.

John spreads the NETSCOUT story through numerous articles, blogs, and social media on meeting the challenges of new technology adoption and solution use cases and supports NETSCOUT at industry conferences.
