SEOUL -- KT (Chairman, Suk-chae Lee, www.kt.com) disclosed on the 2nd that it started the world's first nationwide dedicated network by deploying a 4G WiBro network nationwide in 82 cities and on the Gyeongbu, Jungbu, Honam, Yeongdong, Seohaean, Namhae, and Sindaegu-busan expressways, in addition to the areas that are already covered in Seoul and in five other metropolitan areas.

WiBro is an abbreviation for Wireless Broadband, a 4G Internet technology whose commercial service has been launched in Korea for the first time. HSDPA/HSUPA 3G networks had a maximum download speed of 14.4Mbps. But, 4G WiBro offers a maximum download speed of 40.32Mbps, roughly three times faster than the 3G WiBro.

The current 4G WiBro network that KT has deployed nationwide in Korea features the world's best coverage of 85% of the total population. This surpasses the coverage in key advanced countries, such as the USA (36%) and Japan (70%). Furthermore, customers have been provided with a wider range of selection so that they may use more diverse terminal devices as it has adopted 10MHz, the international standard channel bandwidth. Customers can now use their handsets that were produced overseas without roaming.

Customers may now use a broadband wireless Internet service that is much faster than 3G with a large-capacity multimedia device without interruption while they travel on express highways in all major cities nationwide.

The Galaxy Tab connected by KT's WiBro was launched.
