ITF Wins Undersea Coupler Contract

ITF Optical Technologies Inc., a worldwide supplier of state-of-the-art photonic components for next-generation optical networks, announced today it has signed another major supply agreement this year, this time to deploy 7-SeaTM Couplers in undersea repeaters.

About Undersea qualification

Undersea qualification requires the most stringent performance and reliability data in the world. To qualify, components must demonstrate, through accelerated life testing and modeling, that they can operate in undersea networks for a service life of at least 25 years and attain a FIT rate of 0.1 (a failure in time which corresponds to 0.1 failure in a billion device hours). These tests include temperature cycling, high temperature and high humidity exposure, vibration, mechanical shock and various mechanical integrity tests.
