HyperTransport Specs Published

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- HyperTransportTM Technology Consortium, founded to develop, promote and manage specifications of the HyperTransport(tm) I/O link technology, today released the 1.03 HyperTransport specification for public downloads via the consortium's Web site (www.hypertransport.org).

Maintaining the HyperTransport technology as a royalty-free and open interconnect standard, the consortium published the specification to enable designers of computer, networking, telecommunications and embedded applications to more easily evaluate the high-speed HyperTransport link within their next generation designs.

"An important goal of the consortium is to ensure that the HyperTransport I/O Link is an open standard that encourages independent development," said Gabriele Sartori, president of HyperTransport Technology Consortium. "We decided to make the specification public, enabling designers to evaluate the specification before formally adopting HyperTransport technology and receiving a royalty-free license by becoming a member of the consortium."

"The publication of the HyperTransport I/O Link specification removes the administrative hassles chip and system designers typically encounter as they sort out their choices for next-generation interconnect technologies," commented Nathan Brookwood, principal analyst for Insight 64, a Saratoga, CA-based market research organization. "In days gone by, engineers often needed assistance from their legal departments to gain access to documents that defined new standards. This inevitably lengthened project schedules and sometimes limited the range of all available options. Now designers can get all they need for their evaluations with a few clicks at their favorite Web sites."
