Huawei Touts Brazil, Africa Wins

SAO PAULO, Brazil -- Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (“Huawei”), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications networks for carriers around the world, today announced the successful deployment of 1 million ports for ADSL lines to cater to Brazil’s telecommunications market. Huawei provides DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) solutions to almost all the fixed network carriers in Brazil, including Brazil Telecom, Telefonica, Telemar, CTBC and Embratel. Since 2004, Huawei’s DSLAM solutions have been leading Brazil’s ports market place, where over one-third of total DSLAM subscribers in Brazil are utilizing Huawei’s DSLAM solutions.

In response to the growing trends and needs of the telecom industry in Brazil, Huawei today also announced the launch of its new platform IP DSLAM-MA5600 in Brazil. This new platform provides a mature solution that incorporates triple-play solutions, end-to-end IPTV solutions and perfect functionalities for migration, enabling the deployment of IP services for subscribers. The new IP DSLAM-MA5600 solution demonstrates Huawei’s commitment to addressing customers’ needs for affordable convergent products and solutions that allow for flexible interface and scalable coverage.

The new platform provides carriers with significant CAPEX savings and investment protection, whilst delivering flexible and wider coverage, higher bandwidth, easy and secure integration of services and fast deployment. In addition, the newly developed IP DSLAM-MA5600 comes with WiMax/FTTH feature that enables greater convergence with future networks.

KINSHASA, Democratic Republic of Congo -- Oasis Sprl, the Congolese operation of Millicom International Cellular, has awarded Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (“Huawei”), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, a turnkey contract to provide a brand new GSM network. Under the first phase of the contract, Huawei will supply and install its leading edge Huawei EnerG GSM technical platform and deploy more than 500 base stations across the country.

The state-of-the-art network will offer quality voice communication as well as high speed Internet, video on demand, MMS, electronic payments and other attractive features. Millicom DRC will be launching the network with a capacity of over 1 million subscribers with a new brand name in Q3 2006. The initial phase of the network will cover 85% the population in the largest 182 cities of the Congo.

Huawei EnerG GSM introduces 3G and new technologies to enhance GSM performance. Moreover, Huawei’s new GSM BSS features a large capacity yet is small in size, and also supports multiple RF technologies; therefore EnerG GSM efficiently improves network performance, and can decrease cost of network construction and operations and maintenance expenditure. The solution provides for smooth evolution to GERAN and UMTS enabling 3G-like service while protecting the existing network investment.
