HanseNet Picks Level 3 for IP

Level 3 expands IP transit agreement with HanseNet, one of Germany’s leading regional carriers

LONDON -- Level 3 Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:LVLT) announced today that it has signed an agreement to provide IP transit service to HanseNet, one of the leading regional carriers in Germany. Under the terms of the contract, HanseNet will use (3)CrossRoads to connect its high-speed Internet access subscribers to content on the Level 3 network, and to content that’s delivered over the other networks that comprise the public Internet. HanseNet operates a fibre optic city network of more than 1,000 km within Hamburg, offering telecommunications services, fixed and data connections as well as Internet services to more than 60,000 private and 10,500 business customers. “We chose Level 3 because its IP network gives us the premium performance, reliability and scalability we require,” said Michael von Bergner, Head of Carrier / ISP relations for HanseNet. “Level 3’s financial stability and reliability also weighed heavily in our decision.” “HanseNet is one of the most successful and innovative regional carriers in Germany,” stated Brady Rafuse, president of Level 3 in Europe. “We’re delighted that HanseNet has chosen Level 3 as a network partner, and look forward to working with them to help deliver their wide range of superior services to their customers.” Level 3 Communications Inc.
