Fujitsu Microelectronics America has named Jason So senior director in charge of its ASIC and customer owned tooling (COT) business group

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) today named Jason So senior director in charge of FMA’s ASIC and COT Business Group. Jason joins Fujitsu Microelectronics from NEC Electronics America, Inc., where he served as director of business development for SoC, ASIC, and customer owned tooling (COT) development for the Custom LSI strategic business unit.

“Jason brings more than two decades of experience to our ASIC and foundry operations in North America,” said Kazuyuki Kawauchi, president and CEO of Fujitsu Microelectronics America. “He brings dedication and proven commitment to the industry, along with expertise developed over a career that spans multiple process technology advances and leadership in global companies. He will play a major role at Fujitsu as we continue to provide our customers with innovative, reliable technology solutions.”

Prior to joining NEC Electronics America in 1999, Jason worked at STMicroelectronics N.V. for 17 years, where his last position was senior engineering manager in the ASIC Design Center. Before working with ST Micro, he spent three years as an ASIC designer at Texas Instruments. He holds multiple patents in Japan, Europe and the U.S. for semiconductor fabrication process control and development, circuit design, and electrostatic discharge protection methodologies. Jason earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Concordia University in Canada, and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Houston.

Streamlined Business Groups

Fujitsu also announced it is streamlining four Business Groups reporting to Keith Horn, FMA’s senior vice president of sales and marketing. Each business group will provide marketing, sales, and engineering or technical support functions.

Jason So will lead the ASIC and COT Business Group, which covers ASIC and COT business engagements. The Embedded Solutions Business Group, which is led by Richard Harlow, includes microcontroller, graphics display controller, and biometric products such as fingerprint sensor ICs. The Wireless Business Group, which is headed by Ray Abrishami, is focused on WiMAX SoC and GPS products. The Networking Business Group, which is led by Asif Hazarika, is responsible for the 10 Gigabit Ethernet single-chip switch ICs and other networking products and technology.
