ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Fibertech Networks, L.L.C., a leader in building and operating metro-area dark fiber networks within mid-size U.S. cities, today announced the completion of its intra-city, dark fiber optic network in the metropolitan area of Hartford, Conn. In addition to Hartford, Fibertech has metro networks complete in Albany, Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse, N.Y., and Indianapolis, in addition to its first network rings in Pittsburgh and Providence, R.I. Utilizing a ring-based architecture, Fibertech's Hartford network encompasses 128 route miles, 20 on-net buildings and more than 172,300 business lines. It connects strategic data routes throughout the City, passing major government, education and business centers, along with other critical data aggregation points extending into the suburbs of Enfield, Windsor, Rockville, Manchester, Glastonbury, Bloomfield, Simsbury, Farmington, New Britain and Newington. The company has engineered this infrastructure as a diverse route, "open-access" facility, and a key differentiator from typical network investments. "Our network allows numerous telecommunications and Internet Service Providers the ability to offer facilities-based services," said John Purcell, President and CEO of Fibertech Networks. "We believe the completion of this network provides Hartford with an important asset as it will help generate greater local communications competition and elevate the City among an elite group of mid-size, 'technology-savvy' cities."
