Euronews: China Telecom Eyes UK Market

China Telecom Corp. Ltd. (NYSE: CHA), Zain Group and AboveNet Inc. (NYSE: ABVT) are the three to watch in today's EMEA regional roundup.

  • China Telecom is looking to make inroads into Europe with the launch of MVNO services in the U.K. next year, according to the European Communications website. The service, not altogether surprisingly, will target the Chinese community in the U.K. and Chinese tourists. (See China Telecom's FTTH Feast.)

  • A new study has found that four out of ten European households have gone down the "bundle" route to service their broadband, phone and TV needs. The E-Communications Household Survey, coordinated by the European Commission , drew on a sample of 27,000 homes throughout the European Union. (See Europeans Prefer Bundles.)

  • Network services provider AboveNet is, erm, racking up the data center deals in London, announcing a Soho-based contract for Vision Holdings on Tuesday and a Docklands job for QiComm Ltd. today (Wednesday). (See AboveNet Hooks Up London Data Center and AboveNet Hooks Up Soho Data Center.)

  • Zain Sudan is in talks to obtain a license to operate specifically in the new nation state of South Sudan, which finally seceded from the north on July 9 after a bloody civil war. The carrier will continue to operate in South Sudan until the license is agreed, however. (See Mobile Growth Strategies in Africa.)
