CHEPSTOW, U.K. -- VOIP Partners, fast-growing provider of wholesale Voice-over-IP (VoIP) services, is upgrading to a Session Border Control solution from Newport Networks (LSE:NNG - News) to ensure the security, scalability and efficiency of its network. Achieving rapid success with its newly launched services, VoIP Partners chose Newport Networks' 1460 Session Border Controller for its market-leading scalability and long-term investment protection.

Founded last year, Denver-based VOIP Partners launched its first services this spring, targeting high-end customers with differentiation in vertical or geographic markets. Its network infrastructure features a Broadsoft platform with Newport Networks' 1460 providing secure peering between networks.

"For the type and number of customers we're attracting, delivering a secure 'five nines' service requires a carrier-class session border controller," says Jeff Glance, Founder and CTO of VoIP Partners. "We did an analysis of several platforms and found Newport Networks' 1460 to be the most "future-proof" solution. Newport was head and shoulders above the competition in terms of the long-term scalability, resilience and redundancy we need."

VOIP Partners' growth has exceeded 2005 forecasts, attracting more than four thousand subscribers during the first six weeks. Having achieved such rapid uptake, the company is replacing its first-generation Session Border Controller with the Newport solution to accommodate heavier volumes. "For going from 0 to 20K seats and beyond, a first-generation session border control solution isn't going to cut it," says Glance. "Newport is the only vendor with the capacity to scale as we grow market share. From a business perspective the 1460 clearly represents the most strategic investment."

John Everard, Chief Executive Officer of Newport Networks commented, "We are seeing many companies that deployed somewhat simplistic Session Border Controllers early on looking to upgrade as they have found their first-generation solutions were not future-proof. VOIP Partners is executing a strategy that will propel them to market leadership and we're glad to be playing a role in their success."

In addition to being optimized for Tier 1 and 2 provider networks, Glance says Newport Networks' 1460 offered functionality some first generation solutions did not. "In the wholesale market you need to be able to do some rather complex segmentation. With Newport we're able to partition the SBC to tailor it to a specific customer's needs ranging from direct, private network connections to a completely virtual model where we do everything for the customer including far end NAT traversal. With Newport we're able to handle those two extremes and everything in between seamlessly."
