VICTORIA, British Columbia -- VCom Inc. today announced that in association with ARRIS (Nasdaq: ARRS), its jointly developed 700MHz broadband wireless system has been accepted by the Rural Utility Service for purchase under the RUS Broadband Loan Program. This shows VCom’s and ARRIS’s continued expansion using DOCSIS® 2.0-based broadband fixed access wireless systems in North America and the rest of the world. This package contains ARRIS’s wireless enhanced Cadant® C3™ Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) and WM450 modems, and VCom’s advanced 700 MHz Broadband Wireless Internet Network (BWIN™) technology which have already been deployed at multiple sites throughout the US.

DOCSIS® 2.0 based technology uses a fixed modulation scheme to offer the largest amount of carrier grade service and bandwidth over the greatest distance possible. This is essential in areas that are underserved with lower population densities where closely spaced cells of fixed terrestrial infrastructure are difficult to economically justify.

“We are the first organizations to meet the RUS Buy American provision and receive acceptance as broadband wireless equipment providers under the RUS Wireless Networks classification, “ says Richard Blenkinsop, VCom’s Systems Vice President. “Our BWIN™ solution excels when catering specifically to residents and businesses in rural areas where the Broadband Loan Program is key to implementing this technology.”
