May 18, 2004
PARIS -- Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) announced today that it has been awarded a Euro 9 million contract to supply its Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) solution to Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TMB), a leading telecom service provider in Malaysia. The network is being delivered through RESSCOM Technologies, a local solution provider in telecommunications and ICT. Alcatel's solution will extend the operator's nationwide broadband Internet services, branded Streamyx.
Under the contract, Alcatel will supply its industry leading Alcatel 7300 Advanced Services Access Manager (ASAM) to build a broadband network covering the western part of the Selangor, Petaling Jaya and Penang regions, where there's an increasing demand for high-speed and value-added broadband services. Upon completion of the network in the third quarter of this year, TMB will be able to increase its network coverage and scalability and offer new user-centric broadband services to meet the growing market demand.
Norazmi Mohameddan, RESSCOM Chief Executive Officer, said, Alcatel's worldwide leadership in DSL makes it an ideal partner to contribute to the development of Malaysia's broadband network. We believe that our partnership will bring a good combination of a world-class solution, local expertise and international experience to the project.
Broadband is a very powerful tool that helps service providers achieve growth and profitability," says Michel Rahier, Chief Operating Officer of Alcatel's fixed communications activities." We are confident that Alcatel's experience and innovation in broadband solutions will enable TMB to further expand its service offerings to include a wider range of multimedia services such as streaming video, music download, interactive gaming and broadband communications services."
