SUNNYVALE and SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNWL), a leading provider of integrated Internet security solutions, and Cavium Networks, the price and performance leader in security processing, today jointly announced a strategic partnership, extending their existing relationship. SonicWALL currently uses Cavium’s NITROX security processors to accelerate IPSec and SSL functions in their recently announced, high performance PRO 3060 and PRO 4060 security platforms. The two companies are partnering to deliver SonicWALL’s future platforms using Cavium’s highly programmable next generation System on a Chip (SoC) processors with hardware accelerated deep-packet inspection technology.

“We have successfully utilized Cavium’s programmable security processors powered with SonicWALL’s custom microcode to deliver class-leading performance with the PRO 4060,” commented John Gmuender, SonicWALL’s vice president of engineering. “Unlike our competitors, which burden their R&D budgets with in-house silicon development, SonicWALL is leveraging Cavium’s world-class silicon development team and infrastructure. This allows SonicWALL to focus our resources on value added software, our key differentiator in this market.”

“SonicWALL has never believed in the ordinary ‘buy and sell’ relationships with our technology partners, preferring instead relationships where both parties derive value,” said Mark Walden, SonicWALL’s vice president of operations. “Our relationship with Cavium is a perfect example of such cooperative efforts, and is a big part of SonicWALL’s focus on value innovation, whereby we can offer the right features to our customers when they need them, and at the right price.”

“Being selected by an Internet security industry leader like SonicWALL validates the features and performance of our award-winning security processors,” said Syed Ali, president and CEO of Cavium Networks. “Cavium has assembled an unparalleled team of proven microprocessor, security and networking experts and is continually spending tens-of-millions of dollars in developing market leading security processor technology. By leveraging Cavium’s programmable technology, SonicWALL’s world class engineering team can build best-of-breed security products at a fraction of the cost and time.”
