BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Siemens Information and Communication Networks Inc., a subsidiary of Siemens AG (NYSE: SI), announces that BellSouth (NYSE: BLS) has signed an agreement to deploy the IP-based Siemens SURPASS(R) Business Connection(TM) next-generation network solution.

Designed to provide BellSouth's business customers greater control and flexibility in customizing and managing their communications needs, the Siemens solution gives businesses the means to connect calling groups spanning large geographic distances.  Dispersed enterprises can create virtual groupings of fixed, mobile or remote employees, each with consistent access to the same information, applications, and services.

"BellSouth's business customers are seeking comprehensive voice over IP solutions and the company is responding by adding a network-hosted solution to complement its equipment-based and Centrex IP services already in place," said Bill Smith, BellSouth's chief technology officer.  "By enhancing BellSouth's network capabilities with next generation technology, the company is able to continually deliver the innovative services that our customers desire."
