SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The Resilient Packet Ring Alliance, an industry advocacy group promoting resilient packet ring (RPR) technology and its standardization by IEEE, today announced the appointment of a 20-year telecommunications veteran to two key positions in the RPR Alliance. Jack Basi, vice president of marketing of Infineon Technologies Catamaran, Inc., will serve as a member of the Board of Directors and as the RPR Alliance's vice president of marketing. Basi will join other Alliance principal members on the board, who represent Cisco Systems, Corrigent Systems, Lantern Communications, and Nortel Networks. In his marketing post, Basi will continue the Alliance’s efforts to promote the value of RPR technology and the IEEE 802.17 RPR standard through marketing initiatives and research projects.

“As we move to working group ballot for draft 2.0 of the IEEE 802.17 RPR standard, the RPR Alliance sees increasing demand for our organization to be the de facto credible source of information for RPR and its value to the market,” said John Hawkins, chair of the RPR Alliance and senior marketing manager for Optical Ethernet at Nortel Networks. “Jack offers the Alliance a tremendous amount of insight into the market based on his deep experience in the industry, and he also brings a great enthusiasm when promoting the technology and the standard at conferences worldwide. We are pleased that Jack has accepted our appointments to help lead the RPR Alliance to provide the resources necessary for potential users to effectively evaluate RPR technology and solutions.”
