RCN Rolls Out MPLS

RCN Business Solutions has rolled out a Multiprotocol Label Switching Ethernet network throughout the metropolitan New York area

HERNDON, Va. -- RCN Corporation (NASDAQ: RCN) announced today that RCN Business Solutions, a premiere transport, internet, bulk video and voice service provider to the carrier and enterprise business communities, has rolled out a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) Ethernet network throughout the metropolitan New York area. The MPLS network improves reliability and allows for the launch of future advanced, value-added services.

The upgraded Ethernet Network now supports Virtual Private LAN Services (VPLS) for layer 2 and layer 3, point-to-point and multipoint services, and provides enhanced availability and reliability of services provided to the business group's enterprise and carrier customers. It is also highly scalable, which would enable the Company to easily meet increased network demand for the foreseeable future. RCN Business Solutions plans to introduce a variety of cutting-edge, enhanced services later this year.
