SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Marvell(R) (NASDAQ: MRVL), a technology leader in the development of extreme broadband communications and storage solutions, today announced widespread adoption of the Company's patent-pending Virtual Cable Tester(TM) (VCT) technology, an advanced on-chip cable diagnostics capability that significantly reduces network deployment and maintenance costs in all Gigabit Ethernet applications. Built-in VCT cable diagnostics technology is now widely available in the market in a broad range of client and switch Gigabit products from systems companies including 3Com, Cisco, D-Link, Extreme Networks, and Netgear. By using Marvell's on-chip VCT technology, users gain the functionality of a several thousand-dollar cable meter system typically required to handle corporate network service and support issues. With this technology, each network system port can independently detect and report cabling issues without the need to unplug cables. VCT technology is key to reducing the costly support issues experienced by manufacturers of networking equipment as well as improving customer satisfaction levels. Marvell anticipates that major systems manufacturers deploying VCT technology, will be able to eliminate 80% of received support phone calls and significantly decrease installation time. "Netgear is pleased to leverage Marvell's VCT technology in providing easy-to-use, reliable and technologically advanced networking solutions for homes and small businesses," commented Patrick Lo, Netgear's CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors. "By utilizing VCT technology in our products, we can automate cable-related customer support and provide higher levels of customer satisfaction." "Eliminating the concern of cabling issues provides our customers with a worry-free, plug-and-play system," added Steven Joe, President of D-Link. "We are delighted to work with Marvell and to embrace their broadband communications technology, such as VCT, to increase the feature set for D-Link products." Marvell Technology Group Ltd.
