Lucent Unveils New IC

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) Microelectronics Group, the world leader in communications semiconductors, today announced a digital cross-connect integrated circuit (IC) for high-speed synchronous optical networking (SONET) and synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) optical networking systems. The new IC - the TDCS6440G - has a 40-gigabit-per-second (Gbit/s) switching capacity and is part of Lucent's component family for optical networking systems that operate at rates as high as OC-192, or 10 Gbit/s.

"With this device, we are now able to cross-connect as many as four OC-192 streams or 16 OC-48 streams," said Rhett Saugier, marketing manager with Lucent's Microelectronics Group. "Then when combined with four of our TSOT0410G SONET/SDH framers, we are able to provide a five-chip cross-connect and framer solution that cross-connects concatenated STS-192c traffic rates down to STS-1 rates."
