MURRAY HILL, N.J. -- Lucent Technologies today is announcing a number of new additions to its portfolio of next-generation and legacy SONET multiplexers. The new additions reinforce Lucent's optical networking strategy to allow customers to leverage their embedded base of current-generation products, evolving it with new functionality and enabling customers to offer new services without having to deploy overlay networks.

"Adding Ethernet support to our legacy DDM-2000 product is a natural evolution of our long-standing tradition of not only following industry standards, but helping our customers leverage their installed base" said Jay Fahey, general manager, Metro Access Systems, Optical Networking Group. "DDM-2000 has over 200,000 systems deployed and last summer we celebrated the shipment of our three millionth circuit pack. Giving our customers the option to add the latest Ethernet technology to their deployed DDM systems gives them a real competitive advantage."
